Just wanted to ask,

I planned to do my live gameplay in Youtube.

I got the game capture to work, so next up is I am wondering whether I can overlay the youtube live chat for my live Stream onto my screen so I can see what people are chatting to my live stream while playing the game?

Thanks

Hey there!

That is actually something you can do! We recently added the overlay feature to Streamlabs OBS.

Go to Settings --> Game Overlay and turn it on!

Then, make sure you go to Settings --> Hotkeys and set a key to turn it off and a key to turn it on!

Hi, first off, thanks for trying to help me out here..

ok, to the overlay, I set the hotkey for it to Shift+F10

then tried to toggle the overlay in-game with the hotkey, nothing happens..

trying to turn on the overlay through the settings directly, but the button won't toggle when I click on it..

am I doing something wrong here?

Hey @AX337F80 can you make a short gif/video showing the issue when you are trying to toggle the buttons please.
I don't think a vid or gif will help because basically, in game, when I type shift+F10 (the shortcut I put as shown in the first pic I attached) nothing happened, no overlay appear , no nothing.

to the second pic, shown by the red arrow, clicking on it does not turn it on or anything. is this normal?

Hey again!

Have you tried testing different hotkeys to eliminate the possibility that it could be the specific keys you are using?

Also, what game are you trying to test this on? Currently, the overlay does not work for every game.

If you close any open game, and then right click Streamlabs OBS and run as admin, can you turn enable the overlay then or not even when it is open by itself?

yea, I did, even tried ctrl+shift+F10 and a bunch of uncommonly used keys, nothing..

btw, I need to ask, is the button shown on this picture clickable or is it meant to not be able to toggle through settings?

Hey @AX337F80 you should be able to enable the Game overlay, can you logout of Streamlabs OBS, close it then run it as admin and log back in and try to enable Game overlay again btw the hotkey won't do anything unless the Game overlay feature is enabled.

that might explain why the hotkeys wont work..
but as mentioned earlier, clicking on the overlay buttong does not enable it..

and tried with admin and so on too, the button just won't let me click on it
I log off and in with admin rights, still can't click the overlay button..

is it possible that login in with youtube account makes me unable to use the overlay?

Youtube works with this overlay 🙂 could you install BOTH these c++ from here, afterward restart your pc and could you download Streamlabs OBS from here and run the installer as admin (no need to uninstal prior).
ok, downloaded and used the files you gave me here,
still unable to click on the in-game overlay button..

Hey again!

After downloading and installing both files did you also download the latest installer for the software and run it as Admin?

Hum i would suggest to authorise Streamlabs OBS on your Firewall (you can follow this guide) and could you exclude Streamlabs OBS.exe (found in Streamlabs OBS install directory) as well as exclude the slobs-client folder (found in your %appdata%) from your antivirus and then restart your pc and try to enable the game overlay again. BTW are you getting any error when trying to enable it ?

I don't enable firewall and double checked that they are disabled.. so I pretty can say its not the firewall.

ok, to the slobs-client, lemme see, ok, just added the slobs-client to my AV exclusion list.
lemme try

brb after I restart
ok, no can do, still nothing..
as to what happens when I click the overlay button, I guess a vid will show you better than I can explain it..

here u go..

you will see me clicking the overlay button a few times near the end of the vid.. nothing happens, thats it

Hey there,

Can you try closing your game first and then trying to enable it again?

tried that before.. same thing happened, which is nothing.. lol
so any more ideas?

or maybe there is a different add on to OBS that I can use to make youtube livechat appear duRing gaMEPLAY?
ok, I have been fiddling with OBS for a bit now,
figure you can add youtube live chat with a widget called chatbox.
I got that working..

but noted that the chat only appears in your live stream and not in-game.
is this where the overlay comes in?

if yes, then I really got to find a way to get this overlay working.

Yes, the chatbox overlay will only show up on the Streamlabs client.

What game is it that you're trying to use the game overlay with?
What is your YouTube username that you use for streaming?
Have you had any progress with your issue?
tried it on moonligher and witcher 3 so far.

and out of desperation, I tried it on my other Desktop PC (I'm currently trying to get it to work on my laptop) and the problem of not being able to enable the in-game overlay is present there too.

So I can safely say this issue is not related to my laptop alone.

honestly, does anyone else have the same issue as me with the in-game overlay not being clickable?
Bump for help

Hi there!

Sorry for the delay! Were you able to find any resolve regarding the issue?

If not
May I please have your YouTube username as I would like to look into this further for you.
