Chatbox

To add a chatbox:

  1. Navigate to the dashboard -- first go to the chatbox page found here: https://streamlabs.com/dashboard#/chat-box
  2. Customize Your Settings -- Open Streamlabs OBS and find 'Chat Box' from your dashboard under 'Widgets'. Customize your settings and then click save.
  3. Enable Chat Box And Save -- Click on the sources tab in Streamlabs OBS editor, click on 'Chat Box' and add the source, or copy and paste the link into your stream software.
Customization options include:
  • Theme: used to set the look of your chat overlay using several premade themes or use custom css.
  • Badges: set what badges are shown in your chatbox widget. If you want to show mod icons or disable them.
  • Extra Emotes: show BTTV or FFZ emoticons on your chat overlay.
  • Background Color: set the color behind the chat. (Only worry about this if you are window capturing)
  • Text Color: the color of the chat messages in your chat overlay.
  • Text Size: set the size of the text in the overlay.
  • Hide Message After: used to fade messages out after a set time. You can use the "Always Show Messages" box to disable fading .
  • Hide Chatters: can be checked to list names of users you want to hide in your chat. (Such as common bots used).

I would like to be able to have a background for my text that are scrolling on my stream. I have looked at the CSS settings and having issues enabling this. I understand that by default its only there for the purpose of testing but what if I want it at all times.

Thank

You can add a media source on your streaming software and place it behind the chatbox source or indeed use custom html/css to add it in the widget source directly, btw custom html/css is meant to be used for advanced customisations 🙂
