If you are attempting to use Streamlabs via window capture in either version of OBS you may stumble into the issue of having it appear as a black screen instead of the normal green screen.

Here are the steps to fix the black screen window capturing issue:
  1. in chrome click the 3 horizontal bars in the top right and click settings. (Or type chrome://settings in the url bar)
  2. Scroll down to "show advanced settings" then scroll towards the bottom and under "hardware" uncheck "use hardware acceleration".
And here is a visual guide of how to get this done

Wut how does this work, I have a black screen when I have hardware acceleration on, but it works when I have hardware acceleration off.

Streaming software is unable to capture applications with window capture that incorporate hardware acceleration due to various limitations. Like browsers or Discord, have hardware acceleration enabled by default and if you want to capture this with a window capture you need to disable this. Some application do not have this option and cannot be captured and you can then only use a display capture.
I don't have Chrome installed in my OS (Windows 10), however I get this issue with Visual Novel Maker program, I only can see the cursor. What can I do?

Hi there!

What OC mentioned above is not just for Chrome. Hardware Acceleration is in many different applications and can cause issues like the one you are experiencing if not turned off. However not all applications even provide the option to turn it on/off. If Visual Novel Maker cannot be window captured, I would suggest trying Game Capture (it MIGHT work) or simply use Display capture and crop the capture window.

I had to use display capture option, because game capture did not work either, thank you very much for your reply.
